New Church Building / Nueva Construcción de Iglesia

Last week I paid a visit to one of our CAPE students named Lydia and her husband Victorio.  Lydia is a hard working student who has been planting a church in her Zapotec home town. Through hard work and dedication several families have come to know the Lord.  The work in this town is difficult but it is progressing. Currently the church is meeting in Lydia’s home and they no longer have room to grow.  

Recently this congregation was blessed with donation of land.  In the picture above Lydia and Victorio are standing on the property where by faith the new church will soon go up.  We feel led of the Lord to help this new work. We would like raise $3000 to start the process of this construction.  Please pray and consider sending a special online offering using the link below. La semana pasada fuimos a visitar a unos de nuestros estudiantes de CAPE, la hermana Lydia y su esposo Victorio.  Lydia es una de las estudiantes que se esta esforzando mucho en nuestro programa, y también esta levantando una iglesia en su pueblo Zapoteco.  Con mucho esfuerzo y dedicación, varias familias han llegado a conocer a Jesús Cristo como Salvador a traves de esta nueva iglesia. 

La iglesia se reúne en la casa de la hermana Lydia y ya no tiene espacio para crecer. Recientemente esta congregación fue bendecida con una donación de un nuevo terreno.  En la foto pueden ver a la hermana Lydia y Victorio en el terreno adonde por fe se va construir la nueva iglesia.  Dios nos ha tocado para ayudar a esta nueva obra, deseamos levantar unos $3000 dólares para el inicio de esta construcción. Access for the Indigenous / Acceso para las Etnias

The longer I’m here the more I find myself fascinated by the immense diversity located in one state. As we look out and see this wonderful diversity that God has created, it breaks our hearts to think that many of these people don’t have full access to God’s Word. It’s amazing to think that many of us can go to a Christian bookstore and literally overload on all the Christian information we could possibly want. Our access to discover and learn about God is truly vast. It is easy for many of us to forget that a huge majority of the world can’t access this wealth of knowledge because they don’t have it in their own language or they simply can’t read. A few weeks ago my wife posted an awesome article on line describing the basic strategy of our work here in Oaxaca. She ended her article with this powerful statement:

“We as a ministry body we need to evaluate ourselves in regards to the expansion of indigenous education. While we don’t yet have an ideal model, we strive to provide a practical alternative to the traditional Bible Institute. If we refuse to address the obstacles of the indigenous learner, and their ability to access pastoral education, then we have essentially decided to exclude them. We have the freedom, and the mandate, to provide access to those who have been waiting to take the Gospel to their communities.”

Thanks to your help and support, indigenous pastors from five communities in Oaxaca are receiving access to pastoral education. These communities are now blessed with pastors who now minister with more confidence and are able to lead their communities into deeper levels of relationship with God. However, there are 16 indigenous communities that speak over 150 dialects. As you can see, there is a lot of work to be done. Mientras mas tiempo me paso aquí me encuentro fascinado por la inmensa diversidad encontrada en un solo estado. Mientras que miramos hacia afuera y vemos esta diversidad maravillosa que Dios ha creado, nos parte el corazón al pensar que muchas de estas personas no tienen acceso completo a la Palabra de Dios. Es asombroso pensar que muchos de nosotros podemos ir a una librería cristiana y literalmente sobrecargarnos de toda la información cristiana que quisiéramos. Nuestro acceso para descubrir y aprender sobre quien es Dios es realmente enorme. Es fácil para muchos de nosotros olvidar que una gran mayoría del mundo no tiene acceso a esta riqueza de conocimiento porque no lo tienen en su propio idioma o porque simplemente no saben leer. Hace algunas semanas mi esposa subió un artículo hermoso al Internet que describe la estrategia básica de nuestro trabajo aquí en Oaxaca. Terminó su artículo con una declaración poderosa:

“Nosotros como un cuerpo de ministerio necesitamos evaluarnos con respeto a la expansión de la educación indígena. Mientras aun no tenemos un modelo ideal, nos esforzamos a proveer un alternativo práctico al Instituto Bíblico tradicional. Si nos negamos a tratar los obstáculos del estudiante indígena, y su habilidad de tener acceso a una educación pastoral, entonces esencialmente hemos decidido excluirlo. Tenemos la libertad, y el mandato, a proveerles acceso a quienes esperan llevar el Evangelio a sus comunidades.”

Gracias a su apoyo, hay pastores indígenas de cinco comunidades de Oaxaca que actualmente tienen acceso a una educación pastoral. Estas comunidades ahora están bendecidas con pastores quienes ahora ministren con más confianza y están capaces de llevar sus comunidades a una relación mas profunda con Dios. Sin embargo, hay 16 comunidades indígenas que hablan más de 15o dialectos. Como pueden ver, hay mucho trabajo que hacer. As we start our fifth, we are so very grateful to God for giving us a ministry vision that we hope will bear fruit until He comes. Last year we started the Indigenous Pastors Institute (C.A.P.E.), and have five language groups representing new territory for the Kingdom of God. The students have been faithful to their part, overcoming academic challenges because of their passion for the Word of God, and hunger to share what they are learning. As these future pastors continue, we hope soon to see new churches planted in areas that have never had one.

However we are in critical need right now, and do not have the funds to continue the work. We now face the danger of having to return from the field early. We truly need your help. El primer mes del 2012 ya llego a su fin, y nos hace recordar de su fiel apoyo y oración que nos ha permitido cuatro años de trabajo gozoso en el campo de misiones. Mientras comenzamos nuestro quinto año, estamos muy agradecidos con Dios por darnos una visión de ministerio de la cual esperamos tenga fruto hasta que El regrese. El año pasado comenzamos un Instituto bíblico para los pastores de las etnias (C.A.P.E.), y tenemos cinco grupos lingüísticos representando nuevo territorio para el Reino de Dios. Los estudiantes han sido fieles por su parte, superando retos académicos con su pasión para la Palabra de Dios, y su hambre para compartir de lo que están aprendiendo.

Nos encontramos en peligro de tener que regresar antes de tiempo esto causaría un gran atraso en el trabajo dentro de las etnias de Oaxaca. Necesitamos de su apoyo en estos próximos meses. Primera Celebración de Grupos Étnicos

This last weekend we had the privilege of participating in the Oaxaca District's first indigenous celebration. This event celebrated the vast cultural diversity represented among the Assemblies of God churches in Oaxaca. Over 10 different indigenous groups participated in the celebration with more then 500 in attendance. Many groups gave testimonies and sang songs in there native tongues. It was exciting to see the Lord being praised among so many different languages. The Lord moved powerfully through a number of different speakers including national mission’s director Salvador Salazar and the national director of indigenous outreach Cruz Velasquez. I want to thank all the churches that joined us in prayer over this event your prayers and support makes a huge difference.

Este último fin de semana tuvimos el privilegio de participar en la primera fiesta étnica celebrado la diversidad de grupos indígenas en las Asambleas de Dios en Oaxaca. Más de 10 diferentes grupos indígenas participaron en la celebración y mas de 500 personas estaban en asistencia. Muchos de estos grupos testificaron y cantaron en sus idiomas nativos. Fue emocionante ver a todos adorando a Dios en diferentes idiomas. El Señor también se movió poderosamente por varios predicadores entre ellos estaba el director nacional de misiones Pbro. Salvador Salazar y el director nacional de alcance a las etnias Pbro. Cruz Velazquez. Le dio gracias a todos las iglesias que se unieron con nosotros en oración por este evento sus oraciones y apoyo hacen una gran diferencia.
