During the month of August, our whole
family went to visit one of our C.A.P.E. students for a baptism service
"down by the river." In this very beautiful campo, we drove, then
trekked our way to a disappointing amount of water in the river bed. It was
more rocks than river. Finally, Efrain and Pastor Leon found the largest pool
amid the rocks that would work for the baptisms. We sat out on the rocks and chatted
with one of the baptism candidates as we waited for more people to arrive. He
told us it has taken him two years to make this decision, mostly because he was
worried about what other people would think, but that he finally came to the conclusion
that it wasn't really important. His desire to obey God had grown greater. We
watched both him and his wife, along with three others get baptized. It was
Pastor Leon's first time baptizing, and it was so wonderful to see one of the
students come full circle, ministering in all the ways a pastor is privileged
to do. The blue sky, gray river rocks, dotting pools, and gorgeous mountains
were just a backdrop for the even more beautiful presence of the Spirit that was
there. We sang and worshiped between each baptism and felt God blessing the
moment. - Catherine Figueroa
